Senior Backend Engineer

Excited by the challenge of working at a fast-growing cybersecurity startup? We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a high-impact team building the core systems behind an offensive security platform used by some of the world's largest enterprises. This is a fully remote role based in the UK, offering a salary between £70k - £85k.
For this role, you must be resident in the UK and eligible to work without visa sponsorship.
What You'll Do:
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and data pipelines that underpin a large-scale cybersecurity platform.
- Architect and evolve scalable microservices and APIs capable of handling data from millions of client assets.
- Build systems that ingest, process, and serve vulnerability and exposure data in near real time.
- Collaborate closely with frontend engineers and product teams to ensure seamless integration with user-facing features and reporting.
- Continuously improve reliability, performance, deployment, and monitoring as the platform scales.
What We're Looking For:
Tech Stack:
- Backend: FastAPI, Airflow
- Databases: PostgreSQL, MongoDB
- Messaging & Streaming: Kafka
Ideal Experience:
- 5+ years' experience building and maintaining mission-critical backend systems.
- Strong background in microservices-based architectures.
- Hands-on experience with both relational and non-relational databases.
- Experience working with event-driven systems and asynchronous data processing.
- Comfortable writing clean, well-tested code and applying automated testing practices.
- Exposure to data workflows, background jobs, and task orchestration tools.
- Thrives in fast-paced startup environments with a strong sense of ownership.
- A proactive, can-do mindset with the ability to tackle ambiguous problems independently.
Bonus Skills:
- Experience with large-scale data processing or streaming, particularly in a security-focused context.
- Background in data engineering, including ETL pipelines and schema evolution.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring.
- Experience deploying services in cloud environments.
- Previous work within Agile, DevOps-led engineering teams.
